The incident unfolded in the vicinity of 33rd Avenue and Northern Avenue when Phoenix Police officers responded to a shooting report. Upon arrival, they found a man with at least one gunshot wound, who was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives swiftly identified the suspect in this homicide and called upon the Tactical Support Bureau to assist in the apprehension.

The suspect was traced to an apartment complex at 25th Avenue and Cactus Road. After failing to contact a resident of the complex, the suspect moved towards his vehicle in the parking lot. An officer from the Special Assignments Unit, positioned in an unmarked police vehicle, observed the suspect who then produced two handguns and began firing at the officer, striking the vehicle multiple times.

In the video, viewers can witness the officer’s quick reaction as he exits the vehicle and returns fire. The suspect attempts to flee while continuing to shoot at the officer. The intense chase ends in a breezeway of the apartment building, where the suspect falls to the ground and is detained. Officers immediately provided medical aid, and the suspect was taken to the hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

Recovered at the scene were the handguns used by the suspect, and the unmarked police vehicle bore multiple bullet impacts. The officer involved, with seven years of service in the department, belongs to the Tactical Support Bureau.

The video serves as a crucial piece of evidence in the ongoing criminal investigation, which will be reviewed by the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office. An administrative investigation is also underway to determine if the officers’ actions adhered to department policy and legal standards. Final conclusions will be made once all facts are thoroughly examined.

The released footage provides a raw and impactful glimpse into the realities faced by law enforcement. Viewers are encouraged to watch the video to gain a better understanding of the events that transpired and the challenges encountered by the officers involved.
