Phoenix Mobile Career Unit Facilitates Employment Opportunities

Over 150 job seekers attend, with 65 receiving on-the-spot offers from leading employers

In an inspiring display of community and economic support, the City of Phoenix Mobile Career Unit (MCU) recently hosted a successful employment event at UMOM, connecting over 150 job seekers with potential employers and resulting in 65 immediate job offers. The event, held on Wednesday, saw an impressive turnout of community members eager to explore various job openings, particularly in the food industry.

Top employers, including Chipotle, Starbucks, Food City, and Bashas, were present at the event, actively recruiting to fill positions within their companies. The gathering provided a prime opportunity for attendees to network with these industry leaders, apply for jobs, and in many cases, secure employment on the spot.

Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego expressed her enthusiasm about the event’s success and its beneficial impact on the local economy. “I am thrilled to see so many job seekers taking advantage of this opportunity to connect with potential employers. This event is a great example of how our city is working on many fronts to support upward economic mobility and connect residents with meaningful employment opportunities,” Mayor Gallego remarked.

The event not only met but surpassed the ambitious targets set by the Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department’s Business and Workforce Division. Initially aiming to facilitate 208 job offers by June 2025, the program has already achieved 211 job offers, exceeding the goal with a year still to go. This achievement underscores the effectiveness of the MCU initiative in bridging the employment gap in the community.

LaSetta Hogans, Deputy Director of the Business and Workforce Development Division for the City of Phoenix, highlighted the MCU’s critical role. “We are dedicated to helping individuals find meaningful employment and supporting our local businesses by connecting them with qualified candidates,” said Hogans. “This event was a great success, and we look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”

The MCU, recognized as a winner of the Bloomberg Philanthropies Global Mayors Challenge, exemplifies the City of Phoenix’s commitment to workforce development. By traveling around the city, the MCU brings job opportunities directly to communities, especially those that might face barriers to accessing employment resources.

The City of Phoenix Community and Economic Development Department continues to encourage local employers with workforce needs and individuals seeking employment or career advancement to engage with their services. With more events planned, the department hopes to keep building on this momentum to ensure that every Phoenix resident has the opportunity to achieve their employment goals.
