Mesa Woman Arrested In Alleged Assault of 64-year-old Substitute Bus Driver

A 64-year-old bus driver was allegedly assaulted by a woman from Mesa, leading to her arrest.

On Thursday at approximately 2:15 p.m., Hermenegilda Isabelle Marquez, 27,  allegedly assaulted a substitute bus driver in a residential area located near McKellips Road and Country Club Drive.

According to arrest documents, the assault occurred on the school bus and was witnessed by eleven children. The alleged attack took place while the victim was seated and buckled in the driver’s seat.

Police reports state that Marquez claimed that the victim had made hurtful remarks towards her daughter and proceeded to physically assault the driver by repeatedly pushing and slapping her on the head and face. As the woman’s anger grew, she eventually balled her hands into fists and proceeded to pummel the victim with both hands until her boyfriend intervened and pulled her off the bus.

According to the documents of arrest, Marquez attempted to remove the victim from her seat by grabbing her hair with both hands while her boyfriend was pulling her away. However, the victim’s seat belt prevented her from being dragged away.

Marquez caused a variety of injuries to the victim, who needed medical treatment after the attack. According to the arrest documents, the victim stated that her pacemaker started shocking her following the assault.

When officers arrived to the location and interviewed the victim, she stated that she typically does not take that particular route and was not acquainted with Marquez or her daughter. The victim also mentioned that she did not engage in any conversation with Marquez’s daughter.

It is an absolute travesty that a woman simply doing her job was so viciously attacked for no reason and that multiple children had to witness the brutal beating.

One charge of aggravated assault on a school employee was brought against Marquez.
