Spice up Your Weekend with the inagural Sriracha Festival in Downtown Phoenix

Things are heating up this weekend in Phoenix where the inaugural Sriracha Festival will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Heritage Square, 113 N. Sixth St. from 6-11 p.m.

People’s love for this hot sauce made of chili peppers, vinegar, sugar and salt and garlic inspired Fabian Chavira, an ASU graduate and operations manager for Cactus Corn, to create the festival. The inaugural Sriracha Festival will feature over 20 restaurants serving dishes that incorporate sriracha, live music from Rock Lobster, a mixology competition, games and a VIP lounge.

When the idea for the festival came to mind, Chavira visited Huy Fong Foods which is the most recognizable brand of sriracha. The company, located in Irwindale, Calif. and owned by David Tran, is sold in signature bottles featuring a rooster and a green top. Chavira got to tour the factory and meet Tran. Huy Fong Foods has provided special festival bottles  with “Sriracha Festival 2016 Arizona” on them and will be reserved for VIP ticket holders.

The event is 21 and older. Advance tickets are $50 for general admission, $75 for VIP admission and $35 for designated drivers. Tickets at the door are $70 for general admission, $110 for VIP admission and $70 for designated drivers. Five dollars from every ticket sold will go to the Ronald McDonald House Charities in Phoenix.

Festival attendees will get unlimited tastings from food vendors which include: Tuck shop, Pure Sushi Colony, Modern Tortilla food truck, Salut Kitchen Bar, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop and Nook kitchen. Tickets also include four alcohol samples for general admission and six for VIP. The VIP ticket holders get to enter the festival an hour early, get access to the VIP lounge and a special alcohol tasting.
