Saturday's USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

Home Saturdays USPS Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive

May 8, 2018

This Saturday, May 12, your local mail carrier will be picking up and delivering more than just mail. For the past 26 years, the USPS has done a special mail run, making paying it forward easier than ever. In addition to delivering mail, they will be picking up and delivering non-perishable food items and delivering them to local food banks.

Last year 75 million pounds of food were donated through the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. This amount of food is able to feed about 30 million people. In its 26 years, the food drive has collected more than 1 billion pounds of food.

The food drive is planned at a time when food banks are most in need. While there is a rush of donations around Thanksgiving and Christmas, many forget about the spirit of giving for the rest of the year. By spring, holiday donations are dwindling and food banks need to be replenished.

Participating couldn’t be easier. Simply place the foods you want to donate in a bag, and leave it in or near your mailbox. U.S Postal Service Employees and other volunteers will pick it up and deliver it to a local Arizona food bank. This program is organized by the National Association of Letter Carriers, the United States Postal Service, Campbell’s soup, and other volunteers.
