Sam Fox to open California Inspired Restaurant in Arcadia

Wandering the citrus-lined groves of Phoenix’s Arcadia neighborhood is an experience any foodie should partake of at least once. Between the wine bars and spas, Arcadia is home to some of the best dining in the area.

And it is into this setting that James Beard Award-winning restaurateur Sam Fox plans to open his Northern California-inspired restaurant Doughbird, an upscale yet comfortable experience. Slated to open in February on the southwest corner of Indian School Road and 44th Street, it will feature a quirky menu centered around pizza and organic rotisserie chicken designed to appeal .

The menu items are currently planned to rotate seasonally, with about a dozen pizzas, three flavors of rotisserie chicken, and folded sandwiches, along with salads and vegetable side dishes.

With ingredients like crispy chicken with gruyere cheese and roasted rosemary turkey with brie and avocado, Doughbird’s pizzas will definitely appeal to a lighter and more discerning palate. For some pizza-lovers though, it’s all about the crust. If you don’t count yourself among them, Fox may change your mind with his crust made from local and regional grains with house recipes developed to offer a healthy – and delicious – experience.

The rotisserie chicken will not only be very high quality, but also it will feature sauces and flavors that rotate with the seasons that range from light vernal marinades to bold summertime barbecue to warming spiciness in the winter. It will be served with vegetable sides, and also be paired with Fox’s crust to create a selection of folded sandwiches sure to please lunch-goers.

Even though Doughbird is being designed for comfort, it will still be an upscale experience. The 150-seat full-service restaurant will feature a full open-air kitchen placed in a central area and a bar that wraps around it. But that’s not all – thanks to a full walk-in cooler for beer and other alcohol paired with a counter, you’ll be able to get your pizza and beer to go.

While Fox plans to keep the menu affordable with an average check of about $25 per guest, the menu and the experience will be sure to provide Phoenix gastronomes an elegantly different experience.
