Burton Barr Central Library is celebrating its reopening with free events for visitors of all ages after being closed for almost a year due to flooding.
The Phoenix library will reopen Saturday, June 16 at 9 a.m., library officials announced Wednesday. Free activities for the day include children’s story time, a magician, STE/AM programs and adults-only craft time.
Burton Barr has been closed since last July, when the roof sprung a leak during a storm, causing water to pour into the building. Three Phoenix city employees – the library’s security systems supervisor, the electronic systems specialist in the Public Works Department and the library project manager – were fired after a report alleged that six employees may have known there was a problem with corrosion.
