Phoenix Suns and APS Provide STEM Mini-grants to Arizona Teachers

The Arizona Public Service Co. (APS) and the Phoenix Suns are offering Arizona teachers a chance to prove their mettle. Science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) teachers have the opportunity to obtain Mini-grants up to $2500 for the 2017-18 school year.

Over the past ten years, the Suns and APS have partnered up to offer more than $500,000 to Arizona teachers in hopes of boosting the academic excellence of the area.

Public and charter K-12 educators have until Oct. 8 to apply for the 2017-18 STEM Mini-grants. Recipients of the Mini-grants will be notified by Friday Nov. 3, according to the APS website.

According to Tina Marie Tentori, the APS director of community affairs, teachers that have the urge to work on STEM projects, but cannot do so due to cost, are encouraged to apply for the grant.

“APS is committed to inspiring students to pursue careers in STEM,” said Tentori. “We know that a creative project – designed and led by a passionate teacher – can be life-changing.

The Arizona Public Service Co. website provides all necessary information regarding criteria, program procedures and Mini-grant applications. Project summaries for the 2016-17 school year are also available through the APS website. Teachers that are interested in applying can look back at old projects to get a feel for what is required.

For any questions that teachers may have concerning STEM Mini-grants, they can contact Mallory Lebovitz, APS corporate giving specialist, at 602-250-2737 or by email at [email protected].
