PetSmart Rolling Out New Pet Spa Concept

PetSmart has been a great location to purchase pet-related necessities and accessories for years, and soon will float a new service for pets in Phoenix. The test concept is called PetSmart Pet Spa, offering high quality grooming services and products for our furry family members.

The first run for this concept just opened in Oceanside, New York. The store is smaller than other PetSmart locations, which often range from around 18,000 to 20,000 square feet. This specialized location only totals to 7,400 square feet. However, the overall design is very modern and attractive, moreso than older locations. Customers who walk in will first notice a circular welcome desk with a bakery case filled with baked dog treats.

PetSmart’s chief customer experience officer Eran Cohen described the concept as “intended to provide the amenities and comforts to enhance one’s lifestyle, but this time with your pet.” The new store is designed to allow pet parents to have a bonding experience with their dogs with a new self-service dog wash. There are three self-service bays for dog washing, with washing and drying equipment mounted on the walls, along with many options of complimentary pet shampoos and conditioners that address a range of sensitive skincare needs.

After you wash your dog, you can take a few quick steps over to their grooming salon, staffed with academy-certified stylists. The sign above the salon reads: “Lather, Rinse, Repeat…. or leave the styling to us.” There are stools outside the area to allow pet parents to watch their little loved ones receive the grooming services.

The store also offers a coffee bar for pet parents to wait while professionals groom their pets. The coffee bar at the Oceanside location offers seating for 12-plus, as well as a number of complimentary drinks, such as espresso, ground coffee, teas, hot chocolate, cappuccinos, and lattes.

The spa also contains a frozen food section stocked with natural health-oriented products. Customers will also be able to buy pet accessories and toys, like in their other stores.

PetSmart is looking to open around 80 new stores in the upcoming year, which is an increase from last year. This means it looks good that it won’t be long until the Pet Spa is opening up in Phoenix.
