New Music Venue to Open in Phoenix

It’s showtime! The long-awaited Van Buren music venue in Phoenix has finally announced its opening dates and its inaugural lineup, and it’s an explosion of unique talent. Located on the corner of 4th Avenue and Van Buren, the venue is poised to become a cultural hub for the area.

Beginning in August, the 1,800-seat venue will host a variety of performers and music styles, starting with the Cold War Kids on August 23rd. The other 17 performers scheduled within the first few months include Sylvan Esso and Flock of Dimes, Thundercat, Lifehouse and Switchfoot, Bonobo, and the Indigo Girls. Events are scheduled well into November, featuring a healthy blend of jazz, indie, pop and more.

Charlie Levy of Stateside Presents stated, “We are thrilled to announce these shows and to bring even more music and arts to downtown Phoenix.” The Van Buren follows Crescent Ballroom and Valley Bar as the third in a series of successful collaborations between Levy and Tucker Woodbury. At 20,000 square feet, the remodeled venue hopes to draw big names and even bigger crowds. Initially the venue will have similar offerings to the other two venues, but Levy has stated that they are aiming for diversity, hoping to offer a little something for everyone. As the venue gains popularity and momentum, keep an eye out for an increasing variety and caliber of talent.

Tickets for the initial lineup go on sale at 10am on Thursday, May 18th at thevanburenphx.com. The first concert is only $10 per person, to encourage the community to come in and take a look around. In honor of the Van Buren’s dedication to the Phoenix community, proceeds from this concert will benefit Rosie’s House, a local charity that provides instruments and music supplies to children in the area.
