New Girl Scout Cookie Released For 2019, Won’t Be Sold In Arizona

Girl scout cookies are a fan favorite, so the news of a new cookie for their 2019 lineup is exciting; however, for Arizona fans this announcement has a downside: the cookie won’t be sold in the state.

On Tuesday, The Girl Scouts of America announced that the new Caramel Chocolate Chip cookie will be joining the old classics. The Girl Scouts have been keeping an eye on recent health phenomenon and made the cookie gluten free so that everyone can enjoy it. The creation is chewy goodness made with semi-sweet chocolate chips, caramel, and a hint of sea salt.

Will this caramel chocolate chip cookie replace the likes of Tagalongs, Thin Mints and Samoas in the heart of the people? Not in this state. An Arizona spokesperson briefly explained why the cookie will not be offered in the state.

There are two licensed suppliers of girl scout cookies: Little Brownie Bakers or ABC Bakers. The Girl Scouts organization is divided up into many different councils and each council chooses one of these two licensed suppliers to purchase their cookies from.

The product offerings of these two suppliers varies. In some cases, the cookies are the same, but they go by different names. Caramel DeLites at ABC Bakers are known as Samoas at Little Brownie Bakers, Peanut Butter Patties are known as Tagalongs, Shortbread as Trefoils, and Peanut Butter Sandwich as Do-si-dos. In case of the S’mores cookie, the name is the same, but the actual cookie is different.

The caramel chocolate cookie will only be carried by ABC Bakers. This is a problem, because the Arizona Girl Scouts organization is supplied entirely by Little Brownie Bakers.

Arizona’s Girl Scouts organization is made up of two councils. Northern Arizona and the Valley are served by Girl Scouts-Arizona Cactus-Pine Council and the southern half of the state is served by Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona. Both council chose Little Brownie Bakers as their supplier.

The classic Girl Scout cookies will go on sale in Arizona starting in January. The Arizona Cactus-Pine Council’s 2019 cookie season will run from January 21 to March 3. The Southern Arizona Council’s 2019 cookie season will run from January 19 to March 3.
