Light Rail Sweep Leads To Arrests

Skip the fare and pay the price! That is what several residents recently learned.

On a regular basis, the Phoenix Police Transportation Bureau conducts transit sweeps on the Valley Metro Light Rail. In a recent sweep, Phoenix police not only found many passengers riding for free, but they were also able to identify and several wanted felons.

In just a few hours, Phoenix police stopped 42 people for riding the light rail without a ticket. Those passengers were given tickets and seven arrests were made for outstanding warrants.

Phoenix police identified a registered sex offender with a non-working GPS tracker who had failed to pay his light rail ticket.

Those arrested would have never been caught had they paid the $2 fare to ride the light rail.
