A local nonprofit, Keep Phoenix Beautiful (KPB), has scheduled three events in the coming months in an effort to provide area residents with an easy way to repurpose recyclable items and reduce the waste in Arizona landfills. Both events are open to all residents with the first one slated for Saturday, January 5 from 8am to 1pm at Christown Spectrum Mall. If you aren’t able to make it to the first event of the year, you can make plans to attend on February 16 from 7am to 12pm at the Happy Valley Towne Center, or even on April 6 from 7am to 12pm at the Desert Ridge Marketplace. 

The City of Phoenix will be accepting live trees and wreaths to be mulched, as long as all tinsel, hooks, and decorations are removed first. Westech will be accepting a variety of electronics like lap tops, cellphones, printers, etc. Some other items that residents can dispose of safely include housewares, office supplies, rechargeable batteries, bicycles, and even shredding of personal documents. But there will be some items that are not permitted, including single-use batteries (AA/AAA) and light bulbs, prescription drugs and hazardous waste like oil, paint, or chemicals.

KPB organizes a variety of other events throughout the years as well. The Tenth Annual Earth Day Phoenix is still being planned for April 2019. They employ four full-time staff members, along with three part-time staff, but they also rely on teams of volunteers to ensure that neighborhoods remain healthy, beautiful places to live. The group was responsible for 78 community cleanups in 2017.
