Katy Perry To Be Lead Judge on American Idol

With the American Idol reboot coming back to ABC in 2018, it now has its first judge, Katy Perry. News about this broke last Tuesday when ABC Entertainment President, Channing Dungey, made the announcement at the network’s Upfronts in New York City.

Katy Perry was not there for the big announcement, but revealed in a statement that she was “honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true.” Katy also revealed the news on her Twitter as did American Idol did on their Twitter about the huge news.

The news reported that Perry will be the lead judge for the show. The network at this time did not make any other statements regarding the upcoming reboot of American Idol.

TMZ is reporting that it is almost certain that Ryan Seacrest will return to his duties as host for the show. They also broke the story about Katy Perry being a judge, but no word about who the other two judges might be. Some have wondered if any judges from previous seasons might make a return to be a judge on American Idol but there has been no information regarding this.

The news outlet TMZ has heard that since they have Katy Perry as a judge, they may not feel it is essential to get another big name signer now that Katy is on board. TMZ has been told they will target industry executives and songwriters for judges but for now who knows.
