Frontier Airlines has announced they are adding four additional non-stop flights out of the Sky Harbor Phoenix Airport (PHX). These flights will start in the middle of November.
These new destinations include Fort Myers, Florida; Grand Rapids, Michigan; Madison, Wisconsin; and Norfolk, Virginia. These are in addition to the earlier announced non-stop flight between Phoenix and Raleigh-Durham, N.C. starting in Q4 2018.
Jonathan Freed, Frontier’s director of corporate communications, issued this statement.
“We appreciate the ongoing support of the airport and the community at large, and we’re proud to serve Phoenix with some of the lowest fares in the industry and a great travel experience.”
These new services will be offered as seasonal routes, which are based on the demands for these services to the individual cities. These routes will not be available year round. And certain high demand travel periods, such as Thanksgiving or Christmas, will be blacked out. Frontier, like the other low fare carriers, are known to introduce new routes that then get eliminated if they prove to be unprofitable. There is a chance that these new services may not be available over the long haul.
Like other discount airlines, Frontier offers low cost fares and charges additional fees for basics like carry-on bags, soft drinks and snacks, and advanced seat assignments. There have been complaints over this no-frills flying, but as these carriers bring additional competition to airports, they also help lower the costs of air travel.
Frontier Airlines is a low cost carrier headquartered in Denver, Colorado. It is owned by the Phoenix-based private equity firm Indigo Partners LLC, headed by Bill Franke, who is also the chairman of Frontier Airlines.
