Former Arizona Governor Considers 2020 Senate Run

To fill the seat previously held by the late Senator John McCain, former Arizona Governor Fife Symington says he is considering running in the 2020 special election.

A Republican who resigned in September 1997 during his second term as Governor, Symington called the idea of running for U.S. Senate intriguing, according to a Wednesday report from The Arizona Capitol Times.

Symington told the Arizona Capitol Times that while he’s interested in the prospect, he’s also undecided after having grown comfortable outside of the political spotlight. He is also encouraged by the prospective opportunity to run against former Attorney General Grant Woods.

Woods, a Republican, is considering either running for the seat as Democrat or an independent.

Democrat Congressman Ruben Gallego has also expressed interest in the Senate seat.
