Farmers Market for the Soul: Uptown Farmers Market

Stop by The North Phoenix Baptist Church every Wednesday and Saturday morning for the Uptown Farmers Market from 8 am – 12 pm.

Conveniences

The market has an indoor freezer and fridge to keep dairy products and frozen foods their appropriate temperature.

Located on the southeast corner of Central Ave. and Bethany Home Rd., the Uptown Farmers Market can easily be reached by bus, light rail, or car. The market is located two blocks north of the Central/Camelback stop and cars have access to a parking lot and street parking.

Some vendors are equipped to accept credit cards; however, the market also provides a token ATM system that come in $10 denominations, SNAP/EBT tokens for $1 and $5 denominations, and five certified vendors accept WIC checks directly.

Community Service

Veggie Valet – On Saturdays, Careers through Culinary Arts Program (C-CAP) offers a donation-based service to customers who wish to have their produce chopped, diced, or sliced on-site. This partnership between C-CAP and the market allows high school culinary students to gain first-hand experience with food preparation.

Chef Demo Series – Because the market strongly advocates for local and healthy food, there are weekly demos performed by local chefs who are enthused to educate the community.

Vendors also lead weekly classes on the market’s many products so that customers can gain a deeper connection with their food and purchases.

For holidays such as Mother’s Day, the market organizes fun activities and events, so the community can celebrate together.

The market also encourages visitors to bring extra school supplies for the Empower College Prep charter school.

Farmers markets are a perfect place for people to form human connections with friendly people, to learn about their local food producers, to see what their community is making, and to have a good time. Uptown Farmers Market is the perfect place for all these things and more. Don’t forget your reusable bags and check their website for upcoming events.
