Eat Local: New Restaurants in North Central Phoenix

As the recent and ever-increasing development of Phoenix grows, so too does the burgeoning restaurant scene.  One drive down Central Ave. or 7th Street today compared to years past and one can certainly see and feel the new direction Phoenix is heading. With shops and restaurants seemingly sprouting up everyday, here are some new eateries that recently opened their doors.  

Yama Sushi House
Occupying the former Maizie’s location on Central Ave., Yama Sushi House makes a welcomed addition to the Japanese fare in Phoenix. Offering traditional sushi rolls along with specialty ones such as the baked lobster roll, baja roll, and ninja roll. The artful presentation of the rolls adds to the delectable culinary experience.

For those looking outside of sushi, Yama has an array of noodles and ramen dishes along with lunch bento boxes. Not to mention the appetizers and salads including the golden avocado and tuna poke.


Happy hour is from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays.

Yama Sushi House is located at 4750 N Central Ave. and their hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday to Thursday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Friday to Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Toasted
For all the grilled cheese aficionados, Toasted is for you. This “grilled cheese gastropub” opened its doors recently in the Melrose neighborhood. Serving up 11 different types of grilled cheese sandwiches from the traditional ‘Merika with cheddar and Velveeta cheese to a Caprese with fresh mozzarella, basil pesto, and tomatoes with balsamic reduction.

Appetizers include fried cheese curds, pretzel bread, and pommes frites. A trio of soups is on the menu including homemade tomato soup. Not to mention the assortment of desserts such as their s’more cookies.

Toasted is located on 4221 North 7th Avenue and open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday, Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Creamistry
Creamistry is not your average ice cream shop, as their Creamologists serve custom creamy creations using a liquid nitrogen process. The entertainment of watching your custom order come to life is unlike any other ice cream experience. Using all natural, organic ingredients, and over 70 flavors and toppings, there is sure to be a unique creation for everyone.

Though a few months old, this shop is relatively new in the modernized Uptown Plaza located at 100 E Camelback Rd Suite 150. Creamistry hours are from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. Monday to Tuesday, 12 p.m. to 11 p.m. Wednesday, Thursday, Sunday, and 12 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday.
