Consumers Win Against GM in Arizona

Attorney General Mark Brnovich of Arizona made sure those who purchased General Motors defective cars were the winners in the recall lawsuit. Over 6 million dollars will be dispersed among 30,000 consumers who bought 2014 model cars that had a defective ignition switch. This defect caused accidents, and in some instances, death.

Many other states went a different route with the lawsuit. Michigan was awarded over 4 million, but that will go to the states general fund. Brnovich amended Arizona’s lawsuit after he took office in 2015 to focus on consumer payments.

There are lawsuits in every state and the District of Colombia. GM has allocated 120 million dollars for these settlements. The cars produced between 2009 and 2014 with defective parts have cost the company 2.5 billion in fines and penalties.

There are still hundreds of lawsuits involving injury and death that have not been resolved.
