ASU to Help Arizona Achieve Education Goal

Arizona State University is proud to join Arizona Governor Doug Ducey and 60 statewide community, educational, nonprofit, and business organizations in a new partnership that aims to increase the number of Arizona state citizens with college degrees.

This initiative, called Achieve60AZ, is prioritizing educational attainment statewide in order to provide not only individuals with greater prosperity, but the state with more overall economic advancement.   Achieve60AZ’s goal is to raise the state’s degree or professional certificate attainment to 60 percent by 2030, according to its website.

Arizona State University joins a host of other statewide stakeholders in this partnership, including the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education, the Arizona Department of Education, the University of Arizona, and the University of Phoenix.  However, educational attainment has long been an important issue for Arizona State University President Michael M. Crow, who called for an initiative such as this at a breakfast with state legislators in January, according to a press release from ASU.   President Crow recently tweeted his support, stating Achieve60AZ will help increase the state’s economic mobility.

According to its website, the mission of Achieve60AZ is to help generate greater public and private awareness, ownership and support for the long-term steps needed in college entry and completion, adult education and training, and identifying and closing skills gaps to better prepare our workforce and our state for the future.

The goals of Achieve60AZ mirror those of Arizona State University, a public institution.  According to the university’s website, ASU’s Mission and Goals include maintaining university accessibility, increasing graduation rates, and enhancing student development to stay competitive with national leadership levels.

Arizona State University was founded in 1885 and is a public metropolitan research university.  ASU is the largest public university, by enrollment, in the country.  ASU boasts over 80,000 students and was named the number one university in the United States for innovation, edging out Stanford which holds number two spot and MIT which comes in third place.
