A Phoenix Officer’s Personal Project

Phoenix Poiice Officer Ben Carro, recently came up with a personal project idea that he believes will be a positive form of community outreach. The Mountain View Precinct Officer’s project is called “Because We CareBears.”

A Positive Community Influence

By handing out teddy bears and plush animals, the officer hopes to establish a more healthy presence within the neighborhoods he and his fellow officers often police. The toys, which are for the most part new, will be handed out to children in these neighborhoods.

The plan is to keep the toys in the trunk of his car, where he can distribute them easily whenever necessary. Officer Carro intends to give the toys to children who “look like they could use a smile.” He came up with the name “Because We CareBears” while patrolling one day. He stated that after seeing a family that could use an act of generosity, giving the family’s children toys would be the least he could do. This, he noticed, had an immediate positive effect that was felt by the entire family.

Thus far, officer Carro has been supplying his program with his daughter’s unused stuffed animals. She often comes to agreement, after realizing that the toys will go to underprivileged children. Officer Carro hopes that his efforts are a force for good in local communities, and that they are the source of many smiles.

Public Welcome To Contribute

Many families have scores of stuffed animals lying around, no longer in use. Those inspired by this act of kindness, are encouraged to donate stuffed animals of their own. Even a single stuffed animal can change the course of someone’s day. This can be done, at the Mountain View Police Precinct, 2075 E. Maryland Ave. For additional information, the Precinct can be reached at 602-495-5007.
