Spending the day in your pool is common when the temperature soars in the middle of the summer. Because of the large number of homes with pools in Phoenix, childhood drownings are common. There have been 27 drownings and 6 deaths in Phoenix in 2018.

A dad from Gilbert, Lee Kambar watched all of the children drowning stories happening on a daily and decided to find a way to help stop these devastating occurrences. His invention will soon be available to the public.

Kambar and Andrew Roper, his partner, created a device named Morningstar, which can serve as extra protection around your pool. It’s a drone that floats on the surface of your pool. It has cameras on the top and bottom that turn 360 degrees with application software that detects movement, and it’s equipped with facial recognition. It’ll send you an alert when there’s someone around the pool, and you’ll receive another notification when someone goes into the pool.

If you miss the second notification, you’ll receive a live image of your child in the pool, and you’ll easily be able to send the image to authorities and call them to the location.

While the Phoenix Fire Department advocates safety barriers, they believe nothing can be as safe as adult supervision while your kids are in the water.
